How to Design Your Own Giant Deckchair Sling
Whether you are promoting your brand at an outdoor festival, creating an eye-catching display for a trade show, or simply adding a personal touch to a holiday-let garden, designing your own giant deckchair sling is easier than you might think. In this guide we will walk you through every stage — from first concept to finished print — so you can create a sling that looks absolutely stunning on your giant deckchair or deckchair bench.
Start with the Online Designer
The quickest way to get started is our online designer tool. It lets you upload logos, add text, choose background colours and preview your artwork directly on a to-scale sling template. You do not need any graphic-design experience — the drag-and-drop interface is designed for anyone to use.
If you prefer to work in your own design software, that is absolutely fine too. Simply download our sling template (available as a PDF or PNG) from the designer page and use it as a guide layer in Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva or whichever tool you favour.
Artwork Requirements
Getting the technical details right from the outset saves time and ensures a crisp, vibrant print. Here is what to keep in mind:
- Resolution: Supply raster artwork at a minimum of 150 dpi at full size. For logos and graphics, 300 dpi is ideal. Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) are always welcome and will give the sharpest results at any scale.
- File types: We accept PDF, AI, EPS, SVG, PNG, JPEG and TIFF. If you are using the online designer, your layout is saved automatically and sent to us in print-ready format.
- Colour mode: CMYK is preferred for the most accurate colour reproduction. If you supply RGB files we will convert them, but there may be slight shifts in certain shades — particularly vivid greens and blues.
- Bleed and safe area: Our sling template includes a marked bleed zone around each edge. Keep important text and logos within the safe area to ensure nothing is lost when the canvas is folded over the sling poles.
Sling Dimensions at a Glance
| Sling type | Width | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Giant deckchair sling | 1.32 m | 2.1 m |
| Deckchair bench sling | 1.32 m | 1.7 m |
Both slings are printed on heavy-duty polyester canvas using a full-colour heat press process, so photographic imagery, gradients and fine detail all reproduce beautifully.
Design Tips for Maximum Impact
A giant deckchair commands attention simply by being enormous — 190 cm tall when open — so your artwork has a huge canvas to play with. Here are a few pointers we have picked up after producing thousands of branded slings:
Place Your Logo in the Top Third
When the deckchair is open, the top third of the sling faces outward at roughly eye level. This is prime real estate for your logo or headline message. Anything placed lower will still be visible but tends to be partially obscured by the people sitting in the chair (which, let's be honest, is the whole point).
Choose Bold, Contrasting Colours
Outdoor events mean bright sunlight, busy backgrounds and people viewing from a distance. High-contrast colour combinations — think white text on a deep navy background, or a bold yellow logo on black — will stand out far better than subtle pastel tones.
Size Your Text Generously
Text that looks perfectly readable on a computer screen can disappear on a 2.1-metre sling viewed from across an event field. As a rule of thumb, main headlines should be at least 15 cm tall, and supporting text no smaller than 6 cm. If in doubt, go bigger.
Keep the Layout Simple
The most effective slings we print tend to feature a large logo, a short strapline and perhaps a website address or social handle. Resist the temptation to fill every centimetre — white space (or brand-colour space) gives the eye somewhere to rest and makes the key elements pop.
Think About Both Sides
Remember that people will see your deckchair from the front and the back. The rear of the sling (the side resting against the frame) is visible when someone approaches from behind, so consider whether you want a different message or a repeated logo on that side. We can print single- or double-sided designs.
The Proof and Approval Process
Once you have submitted your design — either through the online designer or by emailing artwork to us — our print team will prepare a digital proof. Here is what happens next:
- Proof delivery: You will receive a PDF proof by email, typically within one to two working days. The proof shows your artwork mapped onto the sling template so you can see exactly how it will look.
- Revisions: Need to tweak a colour, adjust a logo position or change some text? No problem. We include revisions as part of the process, and most small changes can be turned around the same day.
- Sign-off: Once you are happy, simply reply to approve the proof. Nothing goes to print until you have given the green light.
If you would rather talk through your design with a real person, get in touch for a quote and one of our team will be glad to help.
Printing and Delivery Timeline
After proof approval, production typically takes five to seven working days. Each sling is printed using a full-colour heat press onto BS 5867 Type B flame-retardant polyester canvas, ensuring vivid colours that withstand sun, rain and repeated use.
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses is included in the price. If you need your slings by a specific event date, let us know when you place your order and we will do our best to accommodate — rush production is available for tight turnarounds.
Already own a Chunky Chairs frame and just need a fresh sling? You can order a branded sling on its own without purchasing a new frame. It is a cost-effective way to update your branding or run seasonal campaigns.
