Giant Deckchair Size Guide — Dimensions, Weight & Setup
Ordering a giant promotional deckchair is a brilliant way to make your brand impossible to miss — but before you commit, it helps to know exactly what you are getting. How big is it really? Will it fit in your van? How long does assembly take? This guide answers all of those questions and more, covering both our giant deckchair and our deckchair bench in full detail.
Giant Deckchair Dimensions
Our flagship giant deckchair is a serious piece of kit. When fully assembled and open, it measures:
| Specification | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Depth (front to back) | 190 cm |
| Height (ground to top) | 190 cm |
| Width | 170 cm |
| Weight (frame + sling) | 39 kg |
| Maximum load capacity | 250 kg |
To put that into perspective, the chair stands roughly as tall as an average adult and is wide enough for two adults and a child to sit comfortably side by side. At 250 kg capacity, it has been rigorously tested to hold that load safely — so you can relax knowing your guests are in good hands.
Deckchair Bench Dimensions
If you need something a little more compact — perhaps for an indoor exhibition stand or a smaller garden display — the deckchair bench is an excellent alternative. It offers the same visual impact in a lower-profile form:
| Specification | Measurement |
|---|---|
| Depth (front to back) | 100 cm |
| Height (ground to top) | 100 cm |
| Width | 170 cm |
| Weight (frame + sling) | 25 kg |
| Maximum load capacity | 200 kg |
The bench shares the same 170 cm width as the giant, so two adults can sit side by side with plenty of room. Its lower height makes it easier to get in and out of — ideal for events where accessibility matters.
Sling Dimensions for Custom Artwork
If you are preparing branded artwork for your sling, you will need these measurements:
| Sling type | Width | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Giant deckchair sling | 1.32 m | 2.1 m |
| Deckchair bench sling | 1.32 m | 1.7 m |
Both slings are the same width, so if you already have artwork designed for one model, adapting it for the other is simply a matter of adjusting the length. Full artwork guidelines and templates are available on our designer page.
What Is in the Box
Every Chunky Chairs order arrives with everything you need to get set up straight away. Here is what to expect:
- Timber frame pieces — FSC-certified hardwood, precision-cut and pre-drilled for straightforward assembly.
- Aluminium sling poles — supplied as standard. These slot through the top and bottom channels of the sling and lock it into the frame.
- Branded sling — your custom-printed heavy-duty polyester canvas, heat-pressed with full-colour artwork.
- Fixings and hardware — all bolts, screws and wing nuts required for assembly.
- Assembly tools — a spanner and Allen key are included, so you do not need to bring your own toolkit.
- Assembly instructions — clear, step-by-step printed guide with diagrams.
Assembly and Setup
One of the most common questions we hear is: "How long does it actually take to put together?" The honest answer is around ten minutes. The frame arrives flat-packed in clearly labelled sections, and the process is straightforward:
- Lay out the pieces. Unpack the frame sections and identify the front legs, rear legs, cross-rails and sling poles.
- Assemble the side frames. Connect each pair of front and rear legs using the pivot bolt. Finger-tighten at this stage.
- Attach the cross-rails. Fix the top and bottom cross-rails between the two side frames. These give the chair its width and rigidity.
- Fit the sling. Slide the aluminium poles through the top and bottom channels of your printed sling.
- Mount the sling. Hook or slot the sling poles into their brackets on the frame. The sling tension is what holds the chair in its open position.
- Tighten all fixings. Go back and fully tighten every bolt with the included tools. Give the chair a gentle shake to confirm everything is solid.
Two people make the job easier, but one person can manage it alone. No power tools are needed — just the spanner and Allen key in the box.

Transporting Your Giant Deckchair
Despite its impressive assembled size, the giant deckchair is designed for portability:
- Folded flat, the frame sections stack neatly and can fit inside most estate cars, large hatchbacks or vans. The longest individual piece is approximately 190 cm, so measure your boot length before collection if you are tight on space.
- Weight: At 39 kg (giant) or 25 kg (bench), the frame is manageable for two people to carry. The sling itself weighs very little and can be rolled or folded separately.
- Packaging: Orders are dispatched in sturdy cardboard packaging designed to protect the timber during transit. We recommend keeping the packaging for future transport if you plan to move the chair between events.

Storage
When not in use, both the giant deckchair and the bench store efficiently:
- Disassemble the frame by reversing the setup steps. The whole process takes around five to ten minutes.
- Store flat. The frame pieces, sling and hardware all stack flat, taking up minimal floor or shelf space.
- Keep dry. Although the FSC-certified timber is robust and the polyester canvas is weather-resistant, storing indoors or under cover will extend the life of both frame and print.
- Sling care. The printed sling can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh solvents, which may affect the print. Roll the sling rather than folding it tightly to prevent creasing.
Safety and Certifications
Every Chunky Chairs product is built to meet recognised British and European safety standards:
- BS EN 581 — our deckchairs have been independently tested to this standard for outdoor furniture strength, durability and stability.
- BS 5867 Type B — the polyester canvas sling meets this flame-retardancy standard, making it suitable for use at public events, exhibitions and commercial venues.
- FSC-certified timber — all wood used in our frames comes from responsibly managed forests.
- Made in Britain — every chair is handmade in our UK workshop.
- Insurance — we carry five million pounds of public liability insurance for complete peace of mind.
- 12-month warranty — all products are covered by a full twelve-month warranty against manufacturing defects.
